Description

The Company shall operate for the public benefit in pursuance of the following charitable purposes or objects: 1.1 to advance health, human rights, equality and diversity by promoting the welfare of people in Scotland whose lives are affected by deafness through: (1) acting on behalf of organisations and agencies working with deaf people in Scotland by forming strategic alliances, developing policy initiatives and using them to improve the human and civil rights of deaf people in Scotland. (2) maintaining co-operation between voluntary and statutory organisations of and for deaf people. (3) establishing dialogue with Government Departments, Local Authorities, and Health, Education and Social Work Services. (4) promoting and supporting the needs of individual deaf people and organisations in Scotland by using the Company as a national forum. (5) campaigning for equal opportunities and improved social inclusion of deaf people. and (6) empowering deaf people to take an active role in addressing the issues that affect their lives. and 1.2 to advance education by: (1) promoting the awareness of deafness and its implications by the dissemination of information to statutory bodies, organisations and the public. and (2) promoting and carrying out or assisting in promoting and carrying out research, surveys and investigations and, where considered appropriate, publishing the results of the same.
