Description

(1) to acquire, hold and administer the whole of the property, assets, liabilities and affairs belonging to the incorporated association known as 'Visibility' which was established in the year 1859 under the name or title of 'The Society for Promoting Reading among the Blind', and which in 1861 became known as 'The Glasgow Mission to the Blind', and which in 1872 became known as 'The Glasgow Mission to the Outdoor Blind' and which in 1905 became known as 'The Mission to the Outdoor Blind in Glasgow and the West of Scotland', and then in 1966 became known as 'The Society for the Blind in Glasgow and the West of Scotland' (2) to ameliorate the conditions of and to relieve and care for persons who suffer sensory impairment residing within Glasgow and the former Counties of Lanark, Ayr, Argyll, Renfrew, Bute, Dumbarton, Dumfries and Galloway and such other areas as the Company may resolve to include within the sphere of its operation. and to provide services and other support to promote the welfare of persons with sensory impairment in the foregoing areas, either independently or in co-operation with other persons or bodies including government departments, local authorities and other organisations interested in promoting the welfare of those persons with sensory impairment. (3) to relieve those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, finance hardship or other hardship by assisting financially or supporting any charitable association formed for all or any of the objects of the Company and to promote or join in the promotion of any charitable company or companies for the purpose of carrying on any activity or business which the Company is authorised to carry on.
