Description

And whereas the Society was originally established for the collection of an extensive library, philosophical apparatus, and such productions of nature and art as tend to improve the mind, and to excite a spirit of general inquiry, and has acquired a valuable collection of books and other things, which have hitherto been preserved in the buildings and premises aforesaid; and the Society has, by the means aforesaid and otherwise, promoted education in Belfast and its neighbourhood; and the present object of the Society is to promote knowledge by the maintenance of a library, and by such other means as the Society shall from time to time deem it advisable to adopt.
