Description

4.1 To Promote and support women from African and ethnic minority backgrounds residing in Edinburgh and its surrounding areas, in the prevention of poverty, advance health (especially the recent effects of Coivd -19) wellbeing and education by offering 1:1 trauma informed person centred advice, information and a signposting service. By lobbying and working in partnership with other specialist organisations with the aim of meeting the needs of African and Bame women and their families. 4.2 To educate and support women from African and the Bame community in issues that arise for them in relation to domestic violence, sexual abuse, addictions, health issues, isolation, racism, gender and LGBT and the effects that covid 19 pandemic continues to have on them and their families in the community. 4.3 Mwamba will offer training to raise awareness and identify personal traumas especially around long held cultural values that have an impact on how they access services, facilitate intercultural communications to breakdown barriers and provide referral pathways into mainstream services. 4.4 We will use our local networks and events to promote the projects work especially with plans to have a community kitchen which reflects the cultural diversity of the African and Bame community within Edinburgh. Mwamba will publicise our work and share data with other services and organisations. 4.5 Mwamba will conduct research facilitate and collect data (with the consent from service users adhering to data protection) to identify and address issues of barriers to social inclusion and active participation for African and women form the Bame community in Scotland. 4.6 We will create and maintain links with non-governmental organisations and associations in order to provide opportunities for the women and their families. We will write articles about the project and grants received in our newsletter which will reach a wider audience. 4.7 Support will be offered through trained outreach volunteers using a variety of social media platforms and communicating in first language for a more effective communication process. We aim to have a communication café with ethnic minority groups.
