4 The organisation's purposes are: The purpose of The Canal Shed will be to benefit the inhabitanu of Edinburgh's canalside communities and adjacent areas without distinctions of sex, sexuality, political, religious or other opinions by bringing together the local statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and local residenu in a common effort to provide facilities (or to assist in the provision of facilities) to promote social welfare and learning through recreation and activities centred around the canal and local green spaces to improve people's lives, enhance health and wellbeing, build community connections and help care for the canal and its environment. In particular: To reduce isolation of people in the local area by developing a community facility that provides a welcoming space for social interaction and opportunities to learn and share skills. To provide a safe and stimulating environment in which adults of all ages and backgrounds can improve their physical, mental & social health through productive and creative activities: To develop the capacity of members to enable the sharing of skills, knowledge and traditional crafts with other generations and with other groups in the community. To work with Scottish Waterways Trust and its partners, and with canalside communities and relevant local stakeholders, to help maintain, develop and promote awareness of the built, natural and cultural heritage of Scotland's canals. In liaison with Scottish Waterways Trust and its partners, to engage In practical conservation activities to enhance the canalside areas.
