Description
To preserve and protect the physical and mental health of the residents of East Kilbride and the surrounding area ('the Operating Area'), and to assist in the relief of ill health and the provision of health education for such residents. To relieve the needs of people (and particularly those resident in the Operating Area) who suffer from mental and/or physical disability, illness or impairment or have particular needs by reason of old age or current or past drug, solvent and/or alcohol abuse, and their carers and families. To relieve poverty, particularly among the residents of the Operating Area. To relieve unemployment, particularly among residents of the Operating Area, for the public benefit in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment. To promote training, particularly among residents of the Operating Area, and with particular reference to skills which will assist the participants in obtaining paid employment. To help young people, particularly those resident in the Operating Area, to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities, such that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and as members of society. To provide, in the interests of social welfare, facilities for recreation and other leisure time activities available to the public at large within the Operating Area. To encourage, stimulate and support volunteering principally in the Operating Area. To work towards the elimination of discrimination (whether on the grounds of race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation or otherwise), to promote and support equality of opportunity for all residents of the Operating Area irrespective of race, religion, disability, gender or sexual orientation and to promote harmony between peoples of different ethnic, racial social, religious and other groups within the framework of a multi-racial and inclusive society.
