Description
This clause shall be interpreted as if it incorporates an over-riding qualification limiting the powers of the Charity so that any activity which would otherwise be permitted by the terms of this clause may be carried on only if that activity furthers an object which is regarded as charitable. the expression 'charitable' shall mean a charitable purpose under Section 7 of the Charities Act. Subject to this over-riding qualification, the Charity's objects are intended to benefit the local inhabitants of North Uist and the wider Western Isles, visitors to the area, national and international students and artists, and the general public in Scotland and elsewhere by seeking to: (a) Advance education of the arts and the local heritage, including Gaelic culture and language, by establishing and managing a culture and arts centre which also includes a museum of local history in North Uist known as Taigh Chearsabhagh, which is open to all to visit and enjoy. (b) Promote the advancement of education by encouraging an interest in and study of the heritage and local history of North Uist including Gaelic culture and language, through the Taigh Chearsabhagh's museum and galleries. (c) Promote and encourage the development and study of arts and crafts locally. (d) Promote all forms of the arts for the benefit of the inhabitants of North Uist, in order to develop greater appreciation of the arts, culture and heritage as well as improve the quality of and public access to the arts.
