Description
'Two My Trustees shall set aside and hold in trust a sum of Five Thousand Pounds(hereinafter 'the Trust the income of which they shall draw each year and at the Trustees' discretion use capital if the income in their opinion is insufficient /and, with a view of endeavouring to encourage and assist young people who reside within, or have at one time resided within or, exceptionally, who otherwise have a connection with, the Forfar area in furtherance of their studies which shall be used for the payment of one or more annual Bursaries from a Fund to be known as the 'Alex. S. Urquhart Bursary Fund'. The Bursaries shall be awarded to such applicants as my Trustees may select and although I do not mean to interfer with the discretionary powers which are conferred on my Trustees, I should like them in selecting the young people for the grants to give preference as follows :- young people from the Forfar area as aforesaid who proceed to, and remain at, such a Musical Academy as my Trustees may approve. They shall be tenable for such a number of years as my Trustees in their sole discretion shall decide. And I direct my Trustees in selecting applicants for these Bursaries to give preference (1) to those who are to specialise in the violin (2) to those who are to specialise in the piano, and (3) to those who are to specialise in any other legitimate orchestral instrument. If no such suitable applicant was available as decided by my Trustees then my Trustees would have power to approve grants at their discretion to the Tayside Symphony Orchestra , so long as they provide concerts in Forfar and to be used for the furtherance of proficiency in an instrument of their choice for members of the said Orchestra under twenty one years of age. The committee of the said Orchestra would be under an obligation to report to the Trustees before the Trust 's annual meeting with details of the disbursement of the funds.
