Description

To continue in Scotland and elsewhere the work which has hitherto been undertaken by the Society as an unincorporated association known variously as 'The Edinburgh Society for Promoting Reading among the Adult Blind at their Own Homes and for Otherwise Ameliorating their Condition', 'The Edinburgh Society (including the South East of Scotland) for Promoting Reading among the Adult Blind at their Own Homes', the 'Edinburgh and 'South East of Scotland Society for Teaching the Blind to Read at their Own Homes' and 'Society for Welfare and Teaching of the Blind (Edinburgh and South East Scotland)', and to take over the assets belonging to the Society as an unincorporated association previously so named. In pursuance of that object but not otherwise the Society shall have power to do all or any of the following things:- (i) to promote, initiate, plan or assist schemes or activities directed towards the welfare of blind and visually handicapped persons, and for these purposes to co-operate with Local Authorities and other organisations working for the welfare of the blind and visually handicapped and to enter into arrangements with voluntary Associations, Government Departments, Local Authorities and Public Bodies. (ii) to discover blind and visually handicapped persons. (iii) to arrange for the medical examination and certification of persons claiming to be blind or so visually handicapped as to require special methods of training or employment (iv) to maintain registers of blind persons and of visually handicapped persons.
