The relief of persons who are in a condition of immediate need, hardship or distress and who are the dependants of:1) officers serving on the active list of the regular army, or if retired, retaining a regular army commission, being employed in an appointment normally reserved for serving or retired officers of the regular army as approved by the trustees;2) full time (permanent cadre) members of the royal irish regiment;3) members of the regular army reserve of officers (raro) and territorial army (ta) officers who:a) have been recalled to the active list under the provisions of article 239 of the pay warrant (raro only):orb) have been called out into permanent service under the provisions of the reserve forces act 1980 or the act of 1996: 0rc) are serving members on a short service voluntary commission (ssvc): ord) are serving on full time reserve service (ftrs) for the duration of that service only.4) the trustees may by way of addition or substitution to the objects before set out in this scheme, make grants from the fund to the army benevolent fund for the general purposes of the army benevolent fund
